-Eyecopia's Email Settings-

Email Settings
    Dialog Window

If you are planning on using Eyecopia to send out emails either as a notification method or simply to share events with others, Eyecopia needs some information about your outgoing email server. You can provide this information by using this Email Settings dialog.

Load Email Settings

When you first install Eyecopia, the application will attempt to gather information about your outgoing email settings from local mail programs on your computer, such as Outlook or Thunderbird. Eyecopia will, by default, load the first set of options it detects automatically. When you initially open the Email Settings dialog window, these default settings are shown. These settings are identified in the drop-down box as Eyecopia: Current Settings. You will want to verify and/or modify this information to suit your needs.

To modify email settings:

  • Eyecopia may have detected alternative settings which will be available in the drop-down box at the top of the dialog window. If you select a different option from this box, the alternative settings will be loaded. Select OK to update the current settings.
  • If you would like to modify the email settings manually, just edit the fields and select OK. The new information will update the current settings.

If you are uncertain what settings to use, we recommend that you consult your Internet Service Provider documentation for your outgoing mail server information. If you have a local mail program like Outlook or Thunderbird, you can also find this information by looking within the Email Accounts information, usually accessed through the Tools or Options menu.

AOL

If you use AOL dial-up, please select this checkbox and Eyecopia will fill in the proper information. AOL requires access to a specific port to send outgoing mail properly. If you select this option, you will not need to configure any of the settings for the email server or authentication. You will still need to provide a return email address.

Email Server

Please identify the name of your outgoing email server in the text field. If your internet service provider (ISP) provides you with a specific port number, you can enter it in the text field on the right. The majority of users should leave this at the default port setting of 25. Different ISPs use various outgoing mail servers. This often looks like smtp.your isp.com. Again, we suggest you refer to Internet Service Provider documentation if you do not know this information. Here are some examples from a few popular ISPs:

  • Net Zero:smtp.netzero.com
  • SBC Yahoo: smtp.sbcglobal.yahoo.com
  • Comcast:smtp.comcast.net

Email Authentication

If your server requires secure password authentication, you will need to provide that information as well. Check your Email Accounts information for your mail program to see if there is an option such as Log on using Secure Password Authentication. If you do need to use this feature, click on the checkbox next to My email server requires and the username and password fields will become enabled. You can then enter the username and password for your email account.

Return Email Address

All email needs to include a return email address in order to be delivered. Please identify the return email address you would like to have linked to email sent from Eyecopia.

Test Email Settings

The email test feature allows you to quickly verify that all of the above features have been correctly set. Click on the Test Email Settings button and you will receive a popup notification that lets you know whether the test was successfully sent or not. If the test was successful, you will also receive an email in the account you specified. If the test was unsuccessful, please double-check the information you provided and make sure your internet connection is active.

When you are certain the email settings are correct, click OK to apply the settings and return to the main Eyecopia interface.

View Email Log

If you would like to review a list of all emails that Eyecopia has sent, click the View Log button. A new log file will open displaying information about all emails that have been sent. You will see the date, time, subject, and recipient of each email.
