Event Settings

This section is located on the top right of the Setup page. Here, you can find several very useful settings. Most likely you won't be changing these very often, but we'll go over them to make sure you understand their purpose.

Video Quality

This feature allows you to change the quality of the video files which Eyecopia creates. The default for this setting, Better quality, larger size, is shown in the picture above. If you need to conserve space used by video files on your computer, you may want to move the slider to the far-left position, Good quality, smallest size. Eyecopia will then use the highest compression possible to reduce file size. If space is not a consideration or you will routinely clean out old files through deletion or archive methods, you may want to move the slider to the far-right position, Best quality, largest size.

Video Frame Quantity

This feature allows you to define the maximum frames per second you would like your camera devices to try and record. The default for this setting is 30 frames/second. A video file with 30 frames/second looks fluid to the human eye. To change this setting, move the slider under Limit recording to: anywhere between 5 and 30 frames/second. Once the slider is set to the quantity you want, click the Apply button.

Due to certain limitations of either your camera, computer, or the monitored environment, it may be advisable to lower this setting. Lowering this setting may improve computer performance, by reducing the processor load on your system. Also, some computers with slower processors will not be able to keep up with the higher frame rate setting. On these systems, you will notice video files may be choppy. A lower setting will help in this case.

Even if your processor can handle higher frame rate, this does not mean the specified frame rate will always be possible. Some camera devices themselves are not able to operate at high frame rates and elements such as lighting and camera settings also play a significant role in frame rate

Disk Usage Warning

Eyecopia uses very effective video compression techniques. However, videos can quickly use up a great deal of space on your computer if you are not careful. You can modify settings here to customize how event files are created and stored for your specific concerns.

The Warn when disk usage reaches X option tells Eyecopia to notify you when a specific amount of space is being used for video storage. This can be a useful reminder to conduct space-saving activities, such as making an archive or deleting old events. The outlined bar represents the current amount of disk usage of your computer, which is also stated underneath the slider. Move the slider from the left to right to set a limit for space. If this limit is reached, Eyecopia will continue to warn you until the setting is changed or the disk usage is lowered, but it will not actually cease creating events.

There is an internal hard limit at which Eyecopia will stop creating events, so your computer is never in danger of attempting to exceed capacity due to event creation. This internal hard limit is triggered when your computer has only 30MB of disk space left. If Eyecopia attempts to record new events after this point, you will receive an error message stating that there is not enough space left to create new events. You can clean up space on your computer by removing old events from Eyecopia or deleting unneeded files from other applications.

Auto-delete Eyecopia Events

This is a great way to keep your system efficient. This feature helps you quickly remove any event that has not been categorized and is older than the time specified in the text box. The default value is 30 days, but you can change the value to whatever works for you.

You can either periodically ask Eyecopia to delete all files older than the time specified or you can have Eyecopia automatically delete these events on a continual basis. To complete the task manually, click the Delete Now button. To set the task to auto-delete, select the checkbox next to Auto-delete uncategorized events...

Event Storage Location

Eyecopia stores all information related to a video event in one main location, which is displayed as a blue link here. You can click on the location to open an Explorer window to that location. If you would like to change this storage location, you can do so at any time by clicking on the Change button. A new window will open where you can browse to the new location to store your Eyecopia events. Once you select the folder and click OK, Eyecopia will begin the process of moving your existing events to the new location. Eyecopia will display a progress meter with an estimated time of completion.

Please be aware that this process may take several minutes, depending on the size and number of existing events that you have

When the process is done, you will notice the new location is displayed as the event storage location link.
