Eyecopia Glossary

To become better acquainted with the Eyecopia program, it may help to understand some key terminology used within the program. Below, you will see a number of terms that are often used in the Eyecopia Help System and in our support of this product. Please let us know if you need additional help understanding these concepts.

Eyecopia Server:
The computer that runs the main Eyecopia application can allow other computers to connect that are running Eyecopia Remote. We use the term Eyecopia server to refer to the computer with the main Eyecopia monitoring system. Any computer using Eyecopia Remote is referred to as the remote system or computer.
Eyecopia Events:
We define an Eyecopia event as the video files and associated information that are created by your Eyecopia server when motion is detected by a monitored camera. Event notifications refer to the images that contain textual information and images pulled from the event video and distributed to various contacts of an Eyecopia server through email, cellular device text messages, popup notifications in Eyecopia Remote, or published to the web.
Tagging an Event:
We use the word tag to refer to the process of associating an Eyecopia event with Eyecopia categories. Categories are used on the Monitor and Archive pages, as well as with the Archive Viewer.
Event Sets:
Event sets are created using either the Monitor and Archive page. A set is created by defining a group of events using the category buttons and time filters. Event sets then appear in either the Event Inbox or are represented on the Archive Session to be included in an archive.
DNS Service:
This is an internet service that translates domain names into IP addresses. This helps programs like Eyecopia Remote and Eyecopia communicate without having to deal with difficulties such as dynamic IP addresses. There are many companies that offer dynamic DNS services free of charge, such as www.DynDNS.org.
Access Rights:
Eyecopia owners always have the power to restrict a contact's access to their monitoring system. Access can be provided or restricted for email, cell, and Eyecopia Remote notifications. The Eyecopia application is very careful about protecting this type of access so that Eyecopia owners never have to worry about unwanted users viewing their personal system.
