Eyecopia 2.0 Help System
-How to publish Eyecopia events to the web-
Eyecopia now allows you to publish information from your Eyecopia server to the web! All you need to do is tell Eyecopia where to upload the information and describe what Eyecopia content you want on the web- Eyecopia will do the rest. We have even created a complete website for you- a set of html templates that will allow you to view all the available information from your Eyecopia server - you don't have to write one bit of code. When the Web Publishing feature is active, Eyecopia uploads the following information:
- Live view images, updated at the frequency you specify during camera setup
- Event preview images and videos, uploaded once an event is completed
- A website template folder, which is uploaded when web publishing begins and updated as necessary, such as when new events occur
The following information will describe the two processes that are needed to start web publishing. Please complete each process below to begin web publishing your Eyecopia information to the web.
Website Location and Setup Configuration
When you first decide to use web publishing, you need to provide a location to upload this information.
- Go to the setup page and select the Web Publishing button under General Settings to open the Web Publishing Settings dialog window.
- Provide a title for your Eyecopia server website. This title is used by the default template in the header at the top of each page of the website, as well as the actual html page titles.
- Select a template for use on your Eyecopia server website. The term
template refers to a folder that contains a set of web documents (html,
stylesheets, images, javascript, etc.) used to create your Eyecopia
server website, but not the actual Eyecopia content such as event
videos. Templates are stored in: My Computer\Shared Documents\
Eyecopia Templates.
Please note the following about Eyecopia templates:
- The default template contains the Eyecopia theme website
- If you only want to upload images and events and do not want any templates uploaded to your server, select None
- If you plan on making some modifications to the default website design, layout, or content, it would be best to copy and paste the default folder within the Eyecopia Templates directory and rename the new folder with your own website theme. Once you have modified the web content to fit your needs, reopen the Web Publishing Settings window to select your new template folder.
- You'll need to identify where Eyecopia should send the information
to be published. Select from these three options:
- Do not publish my cameras:This option completely disables web publishing for all cameras
- Publish to a local web server: If you have a local web server that you want to use, select this option and browse to or type the location where you would like Eyecopia information to be published.
- Publish to a remote web server: If you have a remote web server that you want to use, select this option and provide the connection information needed to access your remote server and specify the root directory for the Eyecopia information to be published.
The location you provide for either the local and remote server should be the root directory. Eyecopia will create subdirectories within this location for each camera that you have chosen to publish, as well as a directory for images that are used for the overall website.
There are many free resources for local web servers and some fairly inexpensive or free options for remote web servers. Please visit our Community Forum to learn more about web server options.
- Once you have provided all of the information above, click the OK button to save your settings and return to Eyecopia's Setup page.
Content Configuration on Your Eyecopia Server Website
Eyecopia now knows how to publish information to the web, so now you need to decide what to publish to your website. For each camera that you would like to publish, please complete the following steps.
- From the Eyecopia Setup page, under Camera Options, use the Camera Selector to choose the camera you would like to publish.
- Click on the Setup button, also under Camera Options
- Click Next to step through the Camera Setup Wizard to the Web Publishing step.
- Select the checkbox at the top of the wizard to Enable web publishing for this camera. If this checkbox is unchecked, no information about this camera will be uploaded to the web.
- The first web publishing option allows you to specify how often Eyecopia uploads the latest live image to the web. Move the slider under Update the live image every X to your preferred time interval between the range of 1 second to 60 seconds. Please consider the speed of your internet connection when setting this interval. Since larger resolutions create larger images, reducing the resolution of your camera may allow you to decrease this time interval.
- The next option allows you to specify how many Eyecopia events are published. Limiting the amount of events stored on your website will improve performance of your Eyecopia server website, and can prevent overages of disk space, which can be costly on remote servers. You can move the slider under Publish up to X events to define how many events you want published.
- Eyecopia will also save snapshots of your camera's live view. Snapshots are simply live images from the camera that are archived on your web server. Snapshots can be useful when you want to quickly scan information about recent activity from your Eyecopia system. If you use the Eyecopia default web templates, these snapshots are used to create a timelapse view from each camera on the website. Move the slider under Save a snapshot every X to set the amount of time that passes between snapshots. You can specify the time interval betwen snapshots by moving the slider between the range of 10 seconds and an hour.
- In the text field next to Publish to this folder you can specify a folder name. This is the name of the sub-directory folder that Eyecopia will create on your server. It will be used to store information specific to this camera, such as live images and event videos. It will default to the name of the camera, but you can modify it to your preference.
Control Web Publishing
To turn web publishing on or off from Eyecopia, use the Web Publishing Override feature. When this button is ON, Eyecopia will be uploading information to your website from all cameras set to allow web publishing. When this button is OFF, no information will be uploaded, but information that was previous uploaded will still be visible on your website.
