Eyecopia 2.0 Help System
-Eyecopia Troubleshooting: Camera Connection Issue-
"My camera device will not connect to Eyecopia"
If you encounter this issue, your first step should be to review our how to add cameras to Eyecopia guide. If you have followed that guide and Eyecopia is still unable to connect to your camera, or has trouble staying connected to a camera once you have added it, please review the possible causes and recommendations shown below.
Camera Recognition Issues
- Incompatible Camera: As stated in the Eyecopia System Requirements, Eyecopia currently supports all cameras that are VfW or WDM compatible. In addition, Eyecopia supports many wireless and wired network cameras, and camcorders. Unfortunately, there are some cameras that do not create a live video feed that Eyecopia needs. Specifically, there are some cameras that require external utilities such as Javascript or ActiveX controls to provide video. At this time, Eyecopia does not support these cameras. The best way to know if Eyecopia will work with your camera is to try out the free trial version. As there are no limitations during the trial period, you can verify if Eyecopia will work with your camera device prior to purchasing a license. In fact, you can even test a camera after your trial period has expired because all camera connection features remain operational. Of course, if a particular camera does not work, please contact us or post on our Community Forum. It is possible that we may add support, or that there is some other reason you are unable to connect with your camera device.
- Driver Issues: One of the most common problems encountered when trying to get a camera device to work properly, for Eyecopia or any video application, is making sure that the proper video drivers are installed on your computer. The best way to avoid driver issues is to make sure you have followed your camera manufacturer's installation instructions properly. We recommend that you visit the manufacturer's website and check for driver updates, as there are sometimes newer and more compatible video drivers available that you may download for free. If you are unsure of this process, please let us know and we will try and walk you through it.
Camera Connection Issues
If you have issues with your camera remaining connected, you may see an error message like the one shown on the right. If you want to remove the camera causing the error message, click on the Remove this camera link. Some reasons you may receive this error are listed below.
- Multiple Applications Attempting to Access Video Feed: Eyecopia will not be able to communicate with your camera device if you run another application that is trying to connect to the live video feed from the camera.
USB port issue or incompatibility: There are some cases with
USB connected cameras where the USB port is not compatible with the USB
device you are trying to use, due to different USB standards. There may
also be issues where your camera device is recognized when plugged into
one USB port but not others. This can often be solved by reinstalling
the camera device with the installation CD you received with the
camera.- Certain Options settings cause connection instability: If you encounter a situation where your camera disconnects randomly, you may want to check the available settings when you select the Options button on the Setup page. It may help to deselect any option that is designated as an auto feature of the camera.
Bandwidth Exceeded: There are some cameras that require a
great deal of your system resources to use. If you try and use more than
one camera in these situations (and sometimes even by themselves!) you
may actually exceed the amount of system resources that can be provided
to the device. Eyecopia will not be able to monitor the device any
longer in this situation. This is a hardware device issue- not a
shortcoming of the application. If you are using Windows XP, you may
receive error messages such as those shown below.
