Eyecopia Remote 2.0 Help System
-Intro Tutorial I: Add a new Eyecopia Server to Eyecopia Remote-
The first step in setting up Eyecopia Remote is to learn how to connect to an Eyecopia server. Most of you are using Eyecopia Remote because you either have setup an Eyecopia server on a different computer, or you have a family, friend, or co-worker who has given you permission to connect to their monitoring system. In either case, you must have the following information to set up:
- Name of the Eyecopia Server: This is can be the actual IP address of the server or the domain name that has been established for that computer. Most Eyecopia users will use a DNS service to create a domain name because it is easier to remember and it is helps Eyecopia Remote find the Eyecopia server, even if the server has a dynamic IP address.
- Username: This is the contact name that the owner of the Eyecopia server has defined for you.
- Password: If you received a username from the owner of the Eyecopia server, then they probably also provided a password. You must have a password to connect as a unique contact to any Eyecopia server. It is sometimes possible to connect as a guest to a server, and in this case you do not need a password.
Let's get started!
- When you first open the Eyecopia Remote application after installation, the program will display the Add Server page, shown to the right. If this page is not displayed, simply click the Add button in the Eyecopia Remote toolbar. This will change the interface to the Add Server page.
- To successfully add a new server you need to enter the information described above exactly as it was given to you by the owner of the Eyecopia server you are trying to add.
- When you are done entering your contact and server information, click on the Connect button. Select the Cancel button if you do not have all of the right information. You will need to contact the owner and get this information before completing this tutorial.
- Now, click on the Setup tab on the top left side of the interface to go to the Setup page and check the status of the Eyecopia server you just added. You will see an icon and a status message displayed that will let you know if you successfully connected and whether the server you added is active or not. If your icon is yellow or red and you do not know why, learn more about what these status messages may mean.
If you see an icon with a green background, like the one to the right,
you have successfully completed part one of this tutorial!
